James Lightfoot artist

James Lightfoot

I am a full time artist, working from a purpose-built studio near Henfield, West Sussex.  I'm lucky enough to live within the South Downs National Park, which continually offers dramatic panoramas.  I am interested in ambiguous light and changing colours.  Morning and evening light with long shadows with sheep or cows grazing provide a recurring theme to paint.  I'm currently working on a series of seacapes from my native town of Salcombe, Devon

I studied Fine Art at Reading University, where I was taught by artists such as Mick Moon RA, Peter Kalkoff, Tom Barrett Richard Wilson and Roger Cook.  I painted large abstracts on canvas, but after an eight year gap working in the media, I returned to art as a figurative artist.
